Yours Mine & Ours

The daily chaos and special moments of a typical American blended family

I'm not a huge cycling fanatic, but leg 6 of the AMGEN tour of CA happens to go right by my house. All the streets were lined with people waiting for the racers to go by.

Moto-Photo...these guys were everywhere.

Cash was way more impressed with the pace cars and the CHP motorcycles.

Adam and Bub and little Baby Bub (Danielle) in the back of the car.

Fire Awareness Day

Our community had their annual "Fire/Disaster Awareness Day" and Shane was there with his engine and crew.

Kamden sinking his dad in the dunk tank. He hit the bulls eye on the first throw (and the second...and the third).

Sawing logs

Scaling the wall.

This weekend

Stained the deck...

...got a sunburn. The End

I have no pictures of Mother's Day, but it looked a little like this...

...except a lot worse. Way more violent throwing up and crying.
Shane's sister and I had planned a get together for their 93 year old grandmother, except she was hospitalized days before Mother's Day. We decided to have the get together anyway. It was lovely, and almost everyone in the family was there. Just as we were sitting down to eat, Cash's always happy expression turned to one of fear and bewilderment and he threw up ALL OVER me, the table, my plate, etc. We took him home where the vomiting proceeded all through the night and next day. My poor baby.

As horrible as it is to have a sick baby, it was sort of heart warming that he only wanted his "Mamma" to hold him for 12 straight hours. It reminded me of how much I love to be his Mommy even when he is whining, puking, and requiring a diaper change every 30 minutes.

Lego Land Fun

I don't visit my dad nearly as often as I should, so we spent a couple days in neck of the woods. He took us to Lego Land. Cash loved it. He was too short for all the rides, but he enjoyed all the little play areas. It was so fun we went back the next day for seconds.

Jules & A

I got to have dinner with my bestest from college, Jules. She lives all the way in Alaska, so getting to see her is a real treat. She was in San Diego for the night for a business meeting. I'm so proud of her! She's still the same ole Jules, and I'm still the same ole me.

And we ate here...Lou & Mickey's Seafood Restaurant. I had one of the best bloody marys I've ever had. And she made me eat oysters on the half shell...reminiscent of old times. Oysters still make me wanna gag.

Here's the story...

So my blog is about my blended family, but I rarely blog about any of the issues, good or bad, that come along with being a blended family. I mostly just write about the boring family stuff that we do. If I did actually talk about blended family issues, it might sound like I am throwing some people under the bus...totally not my intention. I try to keep my caddy-ness to myself whenever possible (or at least between me and my closest friends).

Anyway, we found out last month that the kids' mom is moving back to Arizona. Totally not her fault...I don't think she has much choice. Her husband's business is there and the long distance thing has to be getting really old for them. That immediately poses the question: is Kamden staying or is he going? This will be the third time she has moved from our area to Arizona.

This time Shane put his foot down and was insistent that Kamden would stay with us, at least for the school year portion of the year. She is pretty unhappy about it but agreed that it was the best thing for him. Anyway, I have mixed feelings. Of course I am happy that he will be with us for the majority of the time, but I worry about what another life change would do to him emotionally.

The issue of "where is Breann going" isn't really an issue, because Shane isn't her bio dad. He has been her "daddy" since she was two years old but has no legal rights. We made it clear that she was always welcome to live with us, but it doesn't look like that will be an option.

Summer fun

Over the weekend we got settled into what will be our summer time home-away-from-home. We are putting the trailer at the Palms Resort at the river. It is really nice, family oriented, and has plenty of ammenities. We know at least four other families that will be there. Kamden rode his bike, rollerbladed, played basketball, worked out with me in the gym, and swam. Cashy swam a little and went for lots of walks. He also got to play in the bouncy house...his favorite. It was a great weekend and I wasn't ready to come home.
